Measuring force and acceleration in one sensor
DJB Instruments UK Ltd has expanded its dynamic testing solutions with the launch of the AF/50/5 and AF/100/10 IEPE impedance heads. These compact devices combine an IEPE force sensor and an IEPE accelerometer, enabling simultaneous measurement of both dynamic force and acceleration in a single unit — ideal for modal and structural testing applications.

The AF impedance head is engineered for performance and versatility:
- Construction: Stainless steel housing
- Mass: 30 grams
- Operating temperature: -40 to +121°C (-40 to +249°F)
- Sensitivity options:
– 5 mV/N and 10 mV/N for force
– 50 mV/g and 100 mV/g for acceleration - Mounting: Two M5 tapped holes
- Connection: IEPE signal conditioning (2–10 mA, 18–28 VDC)
- Low-impedance voltage output with effective anti-jamming characteristics
Unlike strain gauge-based systems that are better suited to static or quasi-static applications, the AF impedance head supports wide-band dynamic measurements, providing greater accuracy and excitation range for real-world modal analysis.
Easy setup with IEPE compatibility
Like all IEPE sensors, the AF impedance head offers a plug-and-play interface for most modern data acquisition systems. It can be easily connected to modal shakers via input stingers and test structures, allowing for flexible installation in a variety of test environments. Custom cable lengths are available to suit your setup, and traceable calibration certification is provided with each unit.
