High Temp. Water Cooled Piezoelectric Triaxial Accelerometer - A/33

The A/33 is a water-cooled triaxial piezoelectric charge output accelerometer designed for vibration measurement on surfaces operating at extremely high temperatures, up to 900°C, with water flow. Developed for exhaust and turbocharger testing, it uses DJB’s Konic Shear® sensing technology to deliver stable triaxial data in environments where conventional accelerometers cannot operate.

Description

The A/33 is a water-cooled triaxial piezoelectric charge output accelerometer designed for vibration measurement on surfaces operating at extremely high temperatures. With appropriate water flow, the A/33 supports measurements on surfaces up to 900°C, making it well suited to exhaust systems, turbocharger assemblies and other high-temperature test environments.

Developed using DJB’s Konic Shear® sensing technology, the A/33 has since been applied across a wide range of demanding high-temperature vibration measurement applications beyond its original automotive use cases.

Key specifications

  • Sensitivity: 7 pC/g nominal
  • Weight: 38 g
  • Maximum temperature: -50°C to 900°C with water flow

Model variations

  • A/33 triaxial
  • Mono-axial versions available on request

Design and construction

The A/33 consists of three Konic Shear® mono-axial charge accelerometers mounted into an anodised aluminium block, providing triaxial measurement with the added benefit of single-axis repair if required. Electrically insulated individual inserts help eliminate ground loop interference during testing.

Water cooling is delivered via two titanium pipes. When operating at high temperature, a continuous water flow rate of approximately 0.5 litres per minute is recommended. At the highest temperatures, a constant supply of chilled cooling water should be used. Failure to maintain adequate water flow may result in damage to the unit and risk of injury.

When using multiple A/33 units within a single test setup, it is recommended that each accelerometer is operated with its own dedicated cooling pump.
