A practical case study in steam turbine restart and severe rubbing from Uniper UK
We are pleased to confirm that Anil Balan, Monitoring and Diagnostic Engineer at Uniper UK, will be presenting at Beran Conference 2026 at Beran HQ in Torrington, North Devon, on 1 and 2 July 2026.
Anil is a condition monitoring engineer specialising in rotating machinery diagnostics and vibration analysis across critical power generation assets. At Uniper UK, he works with machine learning platforms alongside traditional condition monitoring techniques, using online vibration monitoring systems and sensor data analysis to identify operational anomalies across the fleet.
Before joining Uniper, Anil spent over a decade in oil condition monitoring and tribology, including roles at Intertek as an Oil Condition Monitoring Laboratory Supervisor and at SeaTec UK as a Tribologist and Technical Services Specialist. He holds an MSc in Process Technology and Management from the University of Strathclyde, a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, and is a Category II Vibration Analyst.
Presentation: Post-outage steam turbine restart with severe rubbing
Anil's session at the Beran Conference 2026 covers a severe rubbing condition that developed during a steam turbine restart following an outage. He will walk through what was observed, how the risk was assessed, the steps taken in response and how the situation was ultimately resolved.
It is a practical, experience-led case study with direct relevance for anyone involved in rotating machinery maintenance, condition monitoring or plant reliability in power generation environments.
