ACCELEROMETER SELECTION - POINTS TO CONSIDER

Read our accelerometer mounting guide

Accelerometer mounting is a critical part of the testing process and one that is most commonly overlooked having little attention paid to it. To maximise data accuracy the accelerometer must be closely coupled with the test item and a poor mounting method can introduce significant errors into the data, particularly as frequency levels rise.

Please see our Mounting Guide for more information on the types of mounting available or feel free to contact us should you need further advice.

Isolated mounting studs

These studs are used where there is a need to electrically isolate the accelerometer from the surface of the test item, this is usually due to ground loop problems which can cause spurious signals to be measured by the data acquisition system. All DJB Isolated Mounting Studs are manufactured by DJB in the UK and offer excellent isolation characteristics.

Non-isolated mounting studs

These studs are often supplied with an accelerometer for simple screw attachment to the test item or to provide an adhesive base when using a tapped base type of accelerometer, it is important to understand these do NOT offer any electrical isolation.

Mounting clips

These clips are specifically designed to be used with the AT/11, AT/13, A/36, and A/136 clip mount accelerometers. This is a popular way of mounting triaxial accelerometers to ensure all X, Y, and Z directions line up to simplify the DAQ setup.
