TEDS-enabled accelerometers from DJB Instruments

DJB Instruments now offers TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) as an option on the majority of its voltage output IEPE sensors. TEDS-enabled accelerometers include a microchip that stores essential calibration and identification data, streamlining setup and reducing the risk of human error.

What is TEDS?

TEDS is part of the IEEE 1451.4 standard, allowing sensors to self-identify and automatically provide calibration information, including:

  • Manufacturer
  • Model number
  • Serial number
  • Sensitivity and units
  • Calibration data
  • Measurement range

Why choose TEDS sensors?

TEDS accelerometers simplify and speed up the configuration of data acquisition systems, with benefits including:

  • Automatic sensor recognition and configuration
  • Reduced manual setup time and errors
  • Improved traceability and accountability
  • Ideal for test environments where sensors are regularly changed or reused

Particularly well suited to demanding applications in aerospace, automotive and industrial testing where precision and traceability are critical.

What do I need to use TEDS sensors?

To use TEDS, you need both TEDS-enabled sensors and a compatible data acquisition system (DAQ):

  • TEDS sensors, such as those available from DJB Instruments
  • DAQ systems that support IEEE 1451.4, for example, the Prosig DATS-tetrad
  • DAQ software capable of reading TEDS data

Most modern DAQ setups support TEDS integration, making it straightforward to get started.

The legacy of TEDS

Originally introduced by the IEEE in the early 2000s, TEDS has become a trusted standard for smart transducer interfacing, playing a key role in ensuring accurate, efficient and repeatable measurement processes.
