Website footers
Footer redesign and customisation across brands
Previously, the footer was shared across all brands, which meant that irrelevant content was displayed in the footer that only applied to one specific brand, making it confusing and inconsistent. The content included news and events, careers, and other links that were not always relevant to each brand. As a result, the footer was paired back and is currently in the midst of a redesign to ensure each brand has a more relevant and streamlined footer.
The development team has a development ticket to work on a solution that will allow each website to have its own custom footer. I drafted a design in Figma and this is pending budget for the work. This footer will include:
- Brand-specific quick links
- Brand logos
- Accreditations
- Links to policies and governance information (tailored to each brand)
- A sign-up block for each brand’s mailing list, is positioned above the footer.
This new footer will also feature a logo design that matches the colour branding of each brand, giving each site a more stylish and cohesive look that aligns with its identity.
Instructions for accessing and editing the footer in Drupal
To manage and make changes to the footer in Drupal, follow these steps:
- Log into the Drupal Admin Interface.
- Navigate to:
Admin > Structure > Menus
This will allow you to see the different menus available on the website. - The following footer menus are available:
- Footer Menu 1: This is the first column and includes links to News and Events and Careers. Both links currently take visitors to the CMTG website for CMTG news and CMTG careers.
- Footer Menu 2: This is the second column and includes links to Policies that apply to the group (though currently, this content is a bit inconsistent as the footer was designed as a one-size-fits-all solution).
- Footer Menu 3: This section previously included a Contact link. However, Beran and Helitune requested this be disabled as they did not want this link leading visitors to the CMTG website. Therefore, this menu link has been removed.
Current limitations and development updates
The website structure was originally built for one site, and as additional brand sites were added, the necessary functionality to tailor the footer for each brand was not fully accommodated due to budget constraints. However, as the redesign progresses, each brand will have a dedicated footer with content that is relevant to its specific audience.
The sign-up block designed for the footer will be implemented shortly, allowing visitors to quickly subscribe to the mailing list for the specific brand they are on.
Please note that the website structure is still evolving, and the development team at ComputerMinds will create something that will work for each brand.
