Mechanical Design Team Leader

The role
The role of the mechanical design team leader is to be responsible for leadership of the mechanical design team and to take overall responsibility for the delivery of objectives aligned with the Helitune and Beran Roadmaps.
Key Objectives
- The mechanical design team leader shall work with the engineering leadership team to plan and lead the successful delivery of customer focused engineering project outputs in support of the business’ product development objectives.
- Maintain a critical hands-on capability within the mechanical design team.
- Support the definition and delivery of the strategic Helitune and Beran roadmaps.
- To be responsible for the Company’s mechanical design methods and processes, including configuration management, ensuring the ongoing development of world-class condition monitoring products.
- To work with the engineering leadership team to effectively allocate resources within the mechanical design team.
- Develop a continuous improvement culture within the mechanical design team to ensure opportunities for continual improvement are identified, prioritised, and executed.
- To ensure that each member of their team is at their best, through collaboration, building and motivating teams, providing coaching, and mentoring as required.
Main Responsibilities
- To co-ordinate mechanical design team activities to ensure a balance between short term tactical activities and delivery of commercial and strategic objectives
- Leadership of projects in the creation, development, and execution of mechanical solutions.
- Accurately communicate delivery status weekly with engineering leadership team and key stakeholders
- To support Project Managers in the production and review of resource forecasts and engineering project plans, and to resolve any resource requirements/conflicts for selected mechanical design activities.
- Take a lead role in customer discussions / reviews with respect to improving the link between customer needs and delivered solutions.
- To work closely with the engineering leadership team to achieve high quality standards, meet time targets, ensure compliance with specifications, and balanced costs at all times.
- Line leadership of direct reports, including appraisals, objective setting and 1:1’s.
- To identify training and personal development requirements within the mechanical design team, ensuring that the business’ mechanical design capability can meet the business’ future needs and delivery of the Helitune and Beran roadmaps.
- To identify and implement process and productivity improvements to achieve process excellence, best practice, efficiency, and compliance.
- To assist in the generation and review of bids and proposals.
- To work closely with the engineering leadership team to ensure that project and business-wide targets are met.

Experience
Must Have:
- Broad experience of working in mechanical design and development environment, preferably with a bias towards CNC machined and sheet metal components.
- Detailed working knowledge of 3D CAD product development tools and techniques.
- A collaborative, coaching style with a desire to put the team first.
- Experience of working in a high integrity, safety critical, aerospace, or industrial environment.
- Appreciation of working within a gated development process.
Desirable:
- Previous leadership or senior level experience in a mechanical design role.
- A sound understanding of vibration data acquisition systems and associated technologies.
- Experience of vibration condition monitoring systems and principles (On Line Vibration Monitoring, Turbine Supervisory Equipment, Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS)
