Manufacturing Test Team Leader 

You will be joining a multi-functional team within an engineering organisation with strong links across industry and academia, where a combination of world-class, highly innovative products, robust engineering process, and use of latest technologies combine to support our customers, operating within some of the most highly regulated industries and aerospace sectors worldwide. 

The successful applicant shall mainly engage across the calibration and repair lifecycle of the products designed and manufactured at Torrington, Additionally, the successful applicant will support the Manufacturing Team Lead within the manufacturing environment to support the business operational KPIs.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the testing of all products produced for customers, subsidiaries, and internal stakeholders, working in adherence to the production plan, and ensuring effective and efficient use of resources. 

  • Responsibility for the line management and mentoring of all direct reports, ensuring cross-training of staff to ensure ongoing staff flexibility and performance. 

  • Responsibility for fault-finding and repairing complex analogue and digital circuits to component level.

  • Support and perform Contract Reviews for customer orders for repair/calibration at the request of the Manufacturing Team Leader.

Responsibility for 

  • The quality of Group products through rigorous and conscientious testing, following Company documentation and procedures 

  • Ensuring that all documentation is completed in full 

  • Work orders being closed out in a timely manner 

  • To lead and support off-site teams, as required for the installation, commissioning, testing, and calibration of equipment on Customer premises, including the preparation of customer reports 

  • Support the planning/coordination of the maintenance and repair activities for key customer contracts (i.e. MOD RT5JS+ availability contract) and provide reports for stakeholders as required.

  • To be fully aware of the content of the Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) covering the ZV1525 extended work-bench activities and to implement this accordingly.

  • To recover goods from quarantine that require fault investigation/re-work, as directed by the Operations Manager/Production Team Lead. 

  • To be responsible for compiling time recordings for all direct reports and to report on these to the Operations Manager monthly.

  • To support the development ongoing improvement of the Epicor ERP system into Operations.

  • Support accurate recording of product configuration management information within the correct depositary (e.g. OnTime).

  • To develop, support, and implement the Operations Training Plan and provide staff training, coaching, and mentoring as appropriate, ensuring that relevant training matrixes are kept up to date for all staff as required.

  • To maintain personal Continual Professional Development and keep abreast of current developments as they affect the work undertaken by the Group.

  • To implement the Group Human Resources Procedures for all direct reports.

  • To actively promote, champion, and lead continuous improvement activities throughout the Operations Department.

  • To generate reports and perform any other tasks as may be reasonably requested by the Operations Manager.

  • To be responsible for the safe storage, maintenance, and availability of all test equipment in the Operations Department.

Experience

Essential  

  • Knowledge of IPC 610 and IPC 620 standards

  • Interactions and understanding of Configuration management systems

  • Have good written English skills 

  • Component/board level fault finding ability 

  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documentation 

  • An understanding of different manufacturing methods and skillsets

  • The ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to a high level of clarity and quality 

  • Thorough attention to detail 

  • Self-motivated individual, who can work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to travel across the UK and if required, abroad

  • Experience working closely with internal and external customers  

  • Experience working with apprentices

  • Be aware of AS9100 and ISO 9001 accreditations 

Desirable

  • High level of interactions and understanding of configurations management systems 

  • An excellent understanding of manufacturing methods 

  • Component/board level fault finding ability. 

  • The ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to a high level of clarity and quality 

  • A self-motivated individual, who can work independently and as part of a team, using their own initiative to provide solutions to technical problems 

  • Experience of IPC 610 and IPC 620 standards 

  • Experience in mentoring apprentices 

  • Experience of interactions with AS9100 and ISO9001 audits
