What are Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed scheme that focuses on five important technical controls which are designed to guard against the most common internet-based cyber security threats.

The five key elements of the programme are:

  1. Firewalls
  2. Secure configuration
  3. User access control
  4. Malware protection
  5. Security update management

About Cyber Essentials Security

The Government worked with the Information Assurance for Small and Medium Enterprises (IASME) consortium and the Information Security Forum (ISF) to develop Cyber Essentials, a set of basic technical controls to help organisations protect themselves against common online security threats.

The full scheme, launched on 5 June 2014, enables organisations to gain one of two Cyber Essentials badges. It is backed by industry including the Federation of Small Businesses, the CBI and a number of insurance organisations, and suitable for all organisations of any size, in any sector.

Our commitment to cyber security

By achieving accreditation to the scheme, we demonstrate our commitment to cyber security.   It means we have put measures in place to protect not only our own organisation but also the security of our clients, by meeting a UK Government endorsed standard.
